Opportunity Snapshot

We are looking for an individual who can open doors and get to the decision makers in an efficient manner. If you have the knack for quickly developing new relationships and fostering confidence with potential customers, this is the position for you.

Curtiss-Wright Controls' Littleton, MA operation is an ISO /AS-9100 certified design and manufacturing facility for circuit card assemblies, cable and wiring harnesses, human interface, power control and distribution subsystem assemblies, and a broad range of support services. Our Embedded Computing division has been steadily growing at about 15% each year, and we're now seeking an astute deal-maker who can win new business within the Military Design & Manufacturing sector to fuel our future growth requirements.

Your challenge is to open doors and plunge boldly where others have not set foot as you aggressively penetrate new accounts within the US. Specifically, you'll identify key commands, primes and other customers that we could do business with, effectively articulate our value proposition in a hyper-competitive environment and foster "win-win" partnerships that drive revenue, profit and customer satisfaction. You'll be an ambassador for our services and an educator for your clients helping them to understand the depth of our services and to get maximum leverage and revenue generating potential from them.

If you have great client relationships within the DoD/Military electronics design and manufacturing space, and the interpersonal finesse to optimize those partnerships, then this role is your ideal opportunity to "make your mark" at one of the defense and aerospace industry's most respected and innovative suppliers!

Your Rewards

If you enjoy a life away from the confines of a traditional office environment, traveling out in the field (about 60-75%), you'll find that our environment is rich with "perks" including:
  • Ground floor opportunity -- you'll be able to shape this role and take advantage of the "upward draft" of opportunity.
  • High potential territory -- in today's economic environment, defense primes are stretching their internal resources to the limit and there's a growing trend to outsource non-core activities; as you effectively position our services as a valuable complement that can allow our clients to focus on their core competencies and actually boost productivity, you'll be able to grow your accounts to a new level of success.
  • Name cachet -- the Curtiss-Wright name is synonymous with innovation, integrity and reliability and our brand is well-known and received in the industry which will make it easier for you to open those doors of opportunity and get in front of our customers.
  • The best of both worlds -- we operate with a great deal of autonomy and foster an entrepreneurial spirit; in fact, we'll encourage you to approach your job as if you were running your own business. At the same time, we are backed by the global resources and stability of Curtiss-Wright Corporation.
  • Pride -- employees at Curtiss-Wright are making history and have been doing so since the legendary first flight by the Wright Brothers over 100 years ago. There is a strong sense of pride among our employees in the products and services that we provide--products that not only serve some of the largest, most vital industries in the world, but also save lives. Our work has an impact on our customers, our country, and the world.
  • Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive base and generous incentive plan, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that offers a variety of health and savings/retirement benefits; you'll also receive travel and expense reimbursements at current IRS allowances.

Our Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience in sales and business development preferably within military, defense or contract manufacturing arenas; previous Engineering Design sales and/or Build-to-Print sales background is preferred.
  • Expertise with leading bid, proposal and quote process.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically with a proven track record in aligning and driving deals to successful completion.
  • Outstanding communication skills to present to a variety of audiences.
  • Superior proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to travel (up to 50% of the time).

More About Your Role

Reporting directly to the Division Manager of Business Development, you will lead the effort to make initial contact and develop relationships with potential customers. You will work closely with 9-12 Independent Manufacturers Representatives who will help you to horizontally penetrate the customer's organization... We'll look to you to initiate contact with potential customers, define the scope of the relationship, identify profitable deal points, negotiate the transaction, and make the sale.

As you can imagine, this is a hit the ground running type of position and after a short "breaking in" period, we'll expect you to leverage your industry contacts and begin making a real impact. Specifically, your responsibilities are to:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers in pursuit of Design and Manufacturing.
  • Obtain and deliver to management RFP, TDP and other documents for quotes and proposals.
  • Support internal quoting efforts on these opportunities.
  • Identify market trends and keep management updated.
  • Identify key customer and program activity and keep management updated.
  • Suggest programs for R&D and Plus-up opportunities.
  • Support other business initiatives including opportunity and activity reporting as required.
  • Conduct training and "Buddy Calls" with the Independent Manufacturers Representatives.

Keys to Success

To flourish in this dynamic environment, you will think strategically about the opportunity, industry and the product(s), developing partnerships with a vision for the short and long term goals of both the partner and the business. In addition, you will rely on the following personality attributes to succeed in this role:
  • Team-building skills with a willingness to mentor others, and motivate your team to help you to achieve sales excellence.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to be able to get up in front of strangers, pitch our capabilities to potential customers, and instill in them the confidence to rely on us to be their design and manufacturing partner.
  • Analytical horsepower with a solid understanding of key metrics that drive top and bottom line revenues.
  • Self-assessment to understand what makes you good at what you do, and constantly taking steps to build on strengths and improve on weaknesses.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
